A 23-YEAR-OLD Namibian man has been arrested in Swakopmund after making a false police statement claiming the theft of his furniture in order to obtain an insurance payout of close to N$20,000.
According to Inspector Serafine Kandjimi, the incident was reported on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at about 16:51 at Mondesa Police Station.
“A male suspect was arrested by the police after it was discovered that he had deliberately made a false statement before a competent Commissioner of Oaths, claiming that his house was broken into by unknown persons, as reported per Mondesa CR 43/12/2025,” Kandjimi said.
In the said statement, the suspect alleged that his refrigerator, a four-plate stove, one HP laptop, and a microwave had been stolen.
Kandjimi said that the suspect further submitted a copy of this false statement with the intention of lodging an insurance claim with Home Corp to the value of N$18,300.00.
“The matter was successfully uncovered during investigations upon visiting the scene, with no signs of forced entry or housebreaking, and some items were recovered in the suspect’s aunt’s room. The suspect arrested is a 23-year-old Namibian male and will appear in the Swakopmund Magistrates Court on Thursday, 18 December 2025.
We would like to strongly caution members of the public against making false reports, providing misleading information to the police, or attempting to defraud insurance companies.
