NAMIBIAN police made several arrests over the weekend in different regions for drug-related offences, seizing cannabis and mandrax during targeted operations. The arrests highlight law enforcement’s ongoing crackdown on illegal drug activity.
According to the police weekend incident report, in Noordoewer, a 30-year-old Namibian male was apprehended on Friday after police found cannabis and N$16,750 at his residence, where he was allegedly selling drugs.
In Keetmanshoop, a 25-year-old Namibian male was arrested at the police station on Friday evening for attempting to smuggle a full mandrax tablet, 10 bankies of cannabis, and two ballies of pure cannabis, with a total value of N$1,010.
Mariental saw multiple arrests: a male and female pair, both around 27 years old, were arrested early Friday morning at their home with 60 ballies of pure cannabis valued at N$11,150. Later, a 24-year-old man in the Withuis location was arrested on Saturday after police seized a cannabis plant worth N$9,500. Another 24-year-old male in the same area was found in possession of loose cannabis valued at N$500.
In Tsumkwe’s Xama village, a 35-year-old Namibian male was arrested around on Friday after being found with 20 bankies of cannabis/skunk and N$300, with the total estimated value at N$1,500.
In Klein-Aub, a 70-year-old Namibian male pensioner was arrested on the C24 Rehoboth-Klein-Aub gravel road after police discovered six bankies of skunk cannabis concealed on his body.
Otjiwarongo also recorded two arrests on Saturday in the Orwetoveni area. A 28-year-old Namibian male was found with cannabis/skunk valued at N$10,100, while a 23-year-old male was arrested in possession of 12 bankies of cannabis worth N$600 and N$70.
In Warmbad, a 33-year-old Namibian male was arrested on Friday morning after police discovered half a mandrax tablet concealed in his pockets during a body search.
Police investigations into all cases are ongoing.
