Government successfully repatriates 17 persons of concern to DRC

THE Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has announced that a total of 17 persons of concern have been successfully repatriated to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The ministry revealed that the repatriation formed part of a voluntary programme carried out in collaboration with the Government of the DRC and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The Ministry highlighted that this group constitutes the fourth cohort of more than 200 persons of concern who have returned to the DRC since the initiative began in 2023.

“These individuals, who arrived in Namibia between 2017 and 2023 and were hosted at Osire Refugee Settlement, opted for voluntary return following continued tripartite engagements aimed at ensuring a safe and dignified repatriation process,” the ministry explained.

Levi Kisimba, Chargé d’Affaires at the DRC Embassy in Namibia, expressed gratitude to the Namibian Government for its protection and support for DRC nationals, and for facilitating their voluntary return.
