THE evolution of technology presents both remarkable opportunities and daunting challenges. The insights of stakeholders will, therefore, be instrumental in navigating the complex landscape and harnessing the full potential of Information and Communication Technology, said Information and Communication Technology Minister Emma Theofelus during the high-level stakeholders’ engagement in the Ohangwena Region.
She emphasised the importance of ICT in shaping the economy and education, and how it plays a role in achieving sustainable development, improving quality of life, and creating opportunities for citizens.
“We recognise the importance of expanding broadband access, improving network reliability, and enhancing cybersecurity,” she said.
The minister said that there is a need to empower citizens with skills through digital literacy programs and rural ICT centres, thereby enabling them to thrive in the digital economy.
She also pointed out the need to promote access to information to allow citizens to make informed decisions.
The high-level ICT stakeholders’ engagement was attended by, among others, government officials, regional and local councillors, and representatives of ICT service providers such as MTC, Telecom Namibia, and Paratus.
