This weekend’s widespread rainfall has left large parts of the country drenched, bringing several rivers back to life.
The Khan River in the Erongo Region is among the rivers that were revitalised after generous showers soaked the area. This follows notable rainfall across various parts of the Erongo Region, including Swakopmund, Usakos, Omaruru and Karibib, which recently recorded heavy downpours that left some roads in the region flooded and inaccessible.
However, the Erongo Region was not the only area to experience significant showers. Various places across multiple regions, from the north to the south, also witnessed substantial rainfall.
This includes central areas such as Windhoek, which has seen moderate showers since Friday.
Showers in central Namibia have also revived some rivers. The Usib River at Groot Aub in the Khomas Region, for instance, recently flooded following persistent rainfall in the area.
Tsumeb and Tsintsabis in the Oshikoto Region also experienced persistent, heavy showers, which left some streets flooded. The Zambezi Region also experienced significant heavy showers, with Namushasha Lodge recording 92 mm of rain on Saturday.
In the south, the NamibRand Nature Reserve, Rietoog in the Hardap Region, and surrounding areas also received substantial showers.
With river levels rising across many regions, the public is urged to remain cautious. More showers are expected, and conditions may shift quickly as water continues to accumulate in catchment areas.
