Two fatal road accidents reported in Omungwelume and Walvis Bay

TWO separate road accidents over the weekend have claimed the lives of two Namibian women, raising concerns over road safety and driving under the influence. One incident occurred near Omungwelume, while the other took place on Nghifikepunye Pohamba Road between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

According to the weekend crime bulletin on Friday at approximately 21:07, a fatal road accident occurred on the main road between Omungwelume and Oshakati at Omahenene location.

It is alleged that Penehafo Hainghumbi, a 35-year-old Namibian female, was seated at the side of the road when she was struck by a vehicle. She died at the scene. The suspect driver, a 32-year-old Namibian male driving a white Ford Drift, reportedly fled the scene without rendering assistance.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect was driving without a valid driver’s licence and is alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol. The next of kin of the deceased have been informed. The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear before the Oshakati Magistrate Court on Monday. Police investigations are ongoing.

On Sunday at around 03:40, a fatal accident occurred on Nghifikepunye Pohamba Road, between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

It is alleged a Namibian female, died at the scene when the driver of a Toyota Etios lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and overturn. The driver and one passenger sustained minor injuries and are currently admitted to Swakopmund State Hospital.

The driver is alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.
