Multiple arrests for drug possession across Namibia

SEVERAL people were arrested in separate incidents across the country over the weekend for possession of cannabis and mandrax, police reported.

According to the weekend crime bulletin, at Ariamsvlei, a 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday, after he was found with ten small bankies of cannabis valued at N$400 during a police search at a mini roadblock, about 5km outside the settlement.

In Rehoboth, police arrested a 26-year-old man at about 20:00 in Block F on the same day after he was found in possession of five bankies of skunk cannabis valued at N$500 during an undercover body search. Later, at about 20:30 in Block G, a 19-year-old man was arrested after he was allegedly found with a sachet of skunk cannabis, two full mandrax tablets, and a quarter tablet, valued at N$520.

In Keetmanshoop, two women aged 17 and 40 were taken into custody at Soweto on Friday after a search of their house uncovered 20 bankies of skunk cannabis, valued at N$1 250, hidden under a bed.

At Aus, a 17-year-old male was arrested on Saturday, around 11:00 at the Aus Police Station after cannabis of undetermined value was discovered in items he had brought for an inmate.

In Walvis Bay, a 27-year-old man was arrested during a stop-and-search operation at about 01:01 on Saturday in Topaas Street, Kuisebmund. He was allegedly in possession of cannabis valued at N$1 400.

At Okombahe, a 22-year-old man was arrested around 16:30 in the Pinks Inn area after a tip-off led to the discovery of four mandrax tablets valued at N$480. In a separate case at about 16:45 the same day, a 33-year-old man was found in possession of 49 bankies of skunk cannabis valued at N$20 250 at Main Street Cave, also following a tip-off.

Police investigations into all cases are continuing.
