NO LIFE was lost and no one was injured so far, but large tracts of grassland have been destroyed by wildfires in the Otamanzi Constituency of the Omusati Region, said Johannes Iiyambo, the constituency councillor.
He said that the fires are still spreading despite efforts to bring them under control.
The councillor said that the grazing areas adjacent to Etosha National Park, which have been destroyed by fire, include Uuthima, Omathagangawa, Uuku, Onambiga, Okalelemwa, Iinyayishe, and Onampugulu. Neighbouring villages such as Okakewa, Onkaankaa, and Amarika have also been badly affected, but no human life was reported lost and no injuries were registered.
“The fire is currently in Onampugulu village and is threatening the neighbouring Ombambi and Nepanda villages,” he said.
