Eshii villagers thank the GRN and Ndeitunga for their borehole

Staff Reporter

THE community of Eshii, a village in the Epembe Constituency of the Ohangwena Region, held a special event on Sunday to express their gratitude to the Government and, in particular, former regional governor Sebastian Ndeitunga for facilitating the drilling of a borehole in their village, thereby ending years of severe water scarcity in the area.

The former governor was accompanied by the current governor, Kadiva Hamutumwa.

Villagers spoke of many years of suffering due to water scarcity and past government attempts to solve the problem, including the drilling of some boreholes whose salty water proved unfit for human consumption.

A water dam located about ten kilometres away had been the villagers’ only source of water.

Ndeitunga said that when he was appointed governor, he said a marked disparity in access to clean water in the region, with some villages benefiting from boreholes while the inhabitants of other villages, like Eshii, were “drinking dirty water.”

He facilitated the drilling of the borehole in Eshii village, which now connects to and supplies water to four neighbouring villages.
