LANDOWNERS are reminded that the deadline to register boreholes and dams under the Water Resources Management Act 11 of 2013 is fast approaching.
The Act, which was promulgated on 29 August 2023, initially allowed an 18-month transition period for landowners to comply. This period ended in February 2025 but was extended by a further eight months, from 1 March to 31 October 2025, giving landowners additional time to complete their registrations.
The Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU), shortly after the Act came into effect, consulted a geohydrologist to clarify the law and its implications for farmers. The Union subsequently engaged with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform to address several ambiguities and questions that arose during implementation.
The NAU has made continuous efforts to keep its members informed and urges all landowners to ensure that their boreholes and dams are registered by 31 October 2025, in compliance with the legislation.
