The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has warned the public not to be misled by an AI-generated video falsely claiming that a Government Investment Platform guarantees an income of N$35,000 per week.
“The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has observed with great concern the circulation of an Al generated video labelled Government Investment Platform Guarantees Income of N$35 000 per week. These untruthful and deceitful videos are featuring the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Elijah Ngurare, the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Natangue Ithete and the Minister of ICT,” Theofelus explained.
She stressed that the government rejects the claims made in the video, confirming that no such platforms or schemes are offered by the Namibian government.
“We further caution the public against falling victims of disinformation. The public is advised to ascertain the credibility of information by calling the offices directly or refer to the official social media platforms of such Offices, Ministries and Agencies before acting the said information. We therefore, urge the public to be vigilant and refrain from further spreading of such videos and images to curb disinformation,” the minister urged.
