NAMIBIA has launched its inaugural Artificial Intelligence (AI) Readiness Assessment Report, a landmark step in advancing the country’s position as a leader in ethical and inclusive AI development.
Speaking at the launch on behalf of Minister Sanet L. Steenkamp, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dino Ballotti, underscored Namibia’s commitment to using AI as a tool for sustainable development while upholding human rights, transparency, and accountability.

Minister Steenkamp stressed that AI must serve the people, with practical applications to strengthen education, agriculture, healthcare, and youth empowerment. She reaffirmed the government’s dedication to a human-centred, rights-based approach, vowing to work with stakeholders across all sectors to ensure AI delivers benefits for every Namibian.
The event also welcomed UNESCO’s proposal for a Regional Forum on AI Ethics, with Namibia expressing its readiness to play an active role in shaping Africa’s voice in global AI governance.
“This launch is not an end, but a beginning,” Steenkamp said. “Namibia is ready to ensure that artificial intelligence works for the many, not the few.”
