A 50-YEAR-OLD woman was fatally stabbed in her home, allegedly by her 42-year-old ex-boyfriend, Christiaan Kooitjie, who was later found dead by suicide.
The deceased was identified as Sofia Nero.
A police crime report issued on Sunday by NamPol Head of Public Relations Kauna Shikwambi indicated that the incident occurred around 04:00 in Block E, Rehoboth.
Shikwambi alleged that Nero died instantly after she was stabbed with a knife in the neck by the suspect.
“It is alleged that the suspect, who was the ex-boyfriend of the deceased, found her in another man’s house, demanded that the door be opened, and when the man refused, the suspect used a homemade weight bar to force the door open,” she said.
She added that when the man realised that the door was forcefully opened, he jumped towards the door, noticed the suspect with an open knife in his hand, pushed the suspect out of the way, and fled.
Shikwambi added that upon coming back with the police, the deceased was discovered with three stab wounds on the left side of her neck.
“The police pursued the suspect, but when they reached his house, he was found hanging in his bedroom with shoelace threads around his neck,” she added.
She indicated that the deceased persons’ next of kin were informed.
