Former health minister receives award from Africa CDC

Staff Reporter

The former Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has received a Certificate of Recognition from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in acknowledgement of his leadership in Namibia’s health sector.

The award was recently handed over to the former minister by the current Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Esperance Luvindao. It had, however, been announced earlier during the 4th Southern Africa Regional Steering Committee (ReSCo) meeting held in Malawi, where representatives from ten Member States convened to discuss ways to enhance regional health coordination.

Dr Luvindao described the award as a testament not only to Dr Shangula’s leadership but also to the unity and commitment within Namibia’s health system.

“Today, we celebrate not just Dr Shangula, but the entire team that supported him. His leadership laid the foundation on which we continue to build,” she said.

Dr Shangula expressed gratitude for the award, describing the recognition as a humbling experience.

“While this award bears my name, it truly belongs to the Ministry and all the staff who worked tirelessly alongside me,” he said.
