THE Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has commenced with the deployment of voter registration teams across the country, a prelude to the Supplementary Registration of Voters ahead of this year’s Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.
Peter Shaama, the ECN’s Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer, said in a statement that the process, which started Saturday, is a step in the Commission’s ongoing commitment to ensure that every eligible Namibian citizen has the opportunity to register and vote in the 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.

He said the SRV exercise begins Monday, the 4th, and lasts until the 19th of this month. Registration points across the country will be open Mondays to Saturdays between 08:00 and 19:00.
Shaama said that registration teams will be stationed at 4,233 established registration points in various locations within constituencies and local authorities, such as schools, community centres, and other accessible venues, to facilitate the registration process for all eligible voters.
“We encourage all eligible voters, particularly young voters who have turned 18 after the conclusion of the 2024 General Registration of Voters, to take this opportunity to register. We also urge eligible voters who have relocated from one constituency to another or missed the opportunity to register during the 2024 GRV to use this opportunity to register,” he said.
To register, an eligible voter must be a Namibian citizen, 18 years and above, and able to identify him- or herself.
In addition, eligible voters must apply for registration in the constituency they reside in and provide proof of residence for eligibility to register for local authority councils.
“An eligible voter is therefore required to prove that he or she has been in a local authority area for a period of 12 consecutive months,” said Shaama.
