Katima Mulilo resident drowns while fishing at Oshakati

Staff Reporter

MUKELEBAI Herre Nasikambo, a 29-year-old resident of Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, drowned while fishing in a man-made water dam at Oshakati on Saturday.

The deceased, who was in the company of his girlfriend, drowned in the man-made water dam, Omatale Gakatumale, in Onawa village.

It is alleged that Nasikambo was fishing with his girlfriend when he entered the water with the intention of retrieving a fish that had become entangled in a floating empty cooldrink container. As he swam, he became exhausted and began to scream for help. His girlfriend — who was standing at the water’s edge — called for assistance, but by the time it arrived, it was already too late.

The deceased was employed in Onawa village as a domestic worker alongside his girlfriend.

The body was recovered by divers of the Police’s Special Reserve Force and subsequently transported to the Oshakati police mortuary.
