THE Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), Namibia’s new official opposition party, has announced its Shadow Cabinet, headed by the party’s National Secretary General, Christine !Aochamus, as extra-parliamentary Shadow Prime Minister.
The Shadow Cabinet, announced by the party’s president, Panduleni Itula, in Windhoek on Thursday, has fourteen ministers and six deputy ministers.
Aloisius Kangulu is the Shadow Minister of Defence, deputised by Isra Kanyemba, while Imms Nashinge takes on the Home Affairs portfolio with Vilho Ihemba as his deputy.
Bertha Nghifikwa is Minister of Education, and Abed Hishoono is her deputy.
Lilani Brinkman leads the Shadow Health Ministry, deputised by Boniface Susiku.
Lilian Lutuhezi is the Shadow Minister of Gender and Child Welfare, with Lucia Mbuti as her deputy.
Armas Amukoto and Ottilie Haitota head the Urban and Rural Development portfolio as Minister and Deputy Minister, respectively.
The remaining eight Shadow Ministers have no deputies. They are:
- Rodney Cloete (International Relations);
- Michael Mwashindange (Finance);
- Michael Mulunga (Agriculture);
- Ferdinand Hengombe (Industry);
- Roderick Likando (Environment);
- John Mouton (Information);
- Nelson Kalangula (Works); and
- Elvis Lizazi (Justice).
The IPC has 20 seats in the 96-member National Assembly, while the ruling SWAPO Party has 51. The remaining 25 seats are shared among eleven smaller parties.
