THE Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has announced that it has collected N$3.4 million from whistleblower reports.
NamRA spokesperson Yarukeekuro Ndorokaze, in a statement issued on Wednesday, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating tax evasion, fraud, and unethical practices.
According to Ndorokaze, NamRA launched the Whistleblowing Hotline last year, which is independently managed by Deloitte Namibia, and it has proven to be a critical tool in enhancing transparency and accountability.
“Since becoming operational in May last year, the hotline has received 60 reports addressing key concerns such as fraud, corruption, tax evasion, alleged money laundering, drug smuggling, and unethical behaviour,” he said.
He added that the impact of this initiative is evident, with N$15.8 million raised in assessments, of which N$3.4 million was recovered from three companies in November and December 2024 alone.
He indicated that this milestone underscores the hotline’s effectiveness as a platform for promoting compliance, ethical governance, and responsible tax administration.
Furthermore, Ndorokaze said NamRA remains steadfast in strengthening tax compliance and encourages all taxpayers and stakeholders to actively utilize the Whistleblowing Hotline.
He emphasized that the public plays a vital role in upholding integrity and accountability within Namibia’s tax system by reporting suspicious activities.
He added that to ensure the protection of whistleblowers, all reports are treated with the highest level of confidentiality.
