A 51-YEAR-OLD woman from Walvis Bay was defrauded of N$777,568.23 after giving away her banking details to someone who misrepresented themselves as a Bank Windhoek employee.
According to Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga of the Namibian police, the incident happened on Monday, 10 March 2025, between 14:58 and 16:00 via Bank Windhoek’s internet banking.
“It is alleged that the suspect unlawfully and intentionally called the 51-year-old Namibian female complainant from Walvis Bay, misrepresented themselves as a Bank Windhoek employee, and obtained confidential information from her, subsequently defrauding her of N$777,568.23.
No recovery has been made, and no arrest has been made yet. Police investigations continue,” Kuwinga said.
