SEVERAL of the country’s dams have continued to rise over the past week, with the Naute Dam in the //Kharas Region showing the most significant increase during this period.
According to the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater), the Naute Dam recorded a water level of 44.2% of its full capacity on Monday, 10 March 2025, marking a notable rise from the 33.3% capacity recorded last week, on Monday, 3 March 2025. This is also higher than the dam’s water level recorded at the same time last season, which stood at 40.5%.
While the Naute Dam experienced the most dramatic increase, several other dams also saw a rise in water levels, though not as significant. NamWater reported that the Neckartal Dam experienced a slight increase over the past week, reaching 81.7% on Monday, up from 80.9% last week, with an inflow of 6.186 million cubic metres (Mm³).

The Swakoppoort Dam recorded a water level of 37.5% on Monday, 10 March 2025, up from 34.9% the previous week, following an inflow of 1.704 Mm³. Meanwhile, the Friedenau Dam recorded a water capacity of 45.8%, a slight increase from 45.6% during the same period. The Otjivero Main Dam recorded a water level of 3.3% on Monday, up from 2.9% recorded last week, while the Otjivero Silt Dam rose to 2.5%, up from 2.2%.
“These positive inflows are a welcome boost to Namibia’s water security. However, despite the encouraging increases, NamWater continues to urge the public to use water responsibly and efficiently to ensure a sustainable water supply throughout the year,” NamWater’s Head of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Lot Ndamanomhata, said.
While most dams saw only slight increases over the last week, NamWater’s Dam Bulletin revealed that, similar to the Naute Dam, many of the country’s dams have exceeded their water levels from the previous rainfall season. For instance, the Von Bach Dam, which had a capacity of 11% last season, stood at 35.3% on Monday, 10 March 2025, while the Omatako Dam, which recorded a water level of 1% last season, reached 27.8% on Monday.
The Hardap Dam, which had a water capacity of 12.8% last season, recorded a capacity of 22.2% on Monday, slightly down from the 22.5% recorded last week. The Olushandja Dam also showed a significant increase compared to last season, recording a capacity of 53.7% on Monday, up from 38.1% last year.
