THE Namibian government has committed N$7 million to facilitate regional memorial services for the late Founding President Sam Nujoma, who passed away last week.
George Simataa, Secretary to the Cabinet and chairperson of the national preparatory committee, said this allocation will provide N$500,000 to each region to host a special memorial service befitting the occasion.

According to Simataa, the initiative aims to allow all Namibians the opportunity to pay homage to the late founding president in preparation for his official funeral. The regional memorial services will be overseen by the respective regional governors.
“The government initially wished to transport President Nujoma’s remains to every region, but logistical constraints made this impossible,” he said.
He explained that the substantial allocation, however, demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that all Namibians have a chance to mourn and celebrate the life of the nation’s founding father.
The regional services will provide a platform for communities across the country to come together and honour President Nujoma’s immense contributions to Namibia’s liberation struggle, independence, and development.
