THE Namibian police are searching for the body of a Namibian man identified as Mabilani Osbert Mabilani (35), who drowned in the Orange River during an illegal fishing expedition.
According to the weekend crime bulletin, the drowning happened on Friday, 7 February 2025, at around 08:00 in the Orange River near Farm Boplaatz.
It is alleged that Mabilani drowned when the tube he was using to stay afloat burst and deflated while he was catching fish with another man. It is further alleged that the deceased and his companion were illegally fishing and had set up camp on the South African side to avoid being detected by the Namibian Police Force in the area.
A deflated tube was retrieved from the river, but the search for the body is still underway. The next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.
