INCIDENTS of children drowning in buckets of water or other liquids, such as traditional homebrew, continue to rise.
The latest incident occurred in Oluhwa village in the Ondangwa policing area of the Oshana Region on Thursday afternoon, when one-year-old Tresia Ndahafa Amadhila drowned in a bucket of water inside her mother’s room.
She was left inside the traditional homestead with another child, aged five, while the adult members of the household were busy cultivating the mahangu field.
According to the police, it was the five-year-old child who informed the family members that Tresia had fallen into a bucket of water, which had been left without a lid in her mother’s room.
“They rushed to the scene, but the child was already dead,” said the police.
