More showers and possible flash floods predicted for Wednesday

Staff Reporter

AS predicted by the Namibia Meteorological Services, several areas across the country have been experiencing significant rain showers, with more — possibly even heavier — showers expected as the week progresses.

The Namibia Meteorological Services has forecasted that heavy storms are likely to continue in many parts of the country this week, particularly in the northern regions and the Otjozondjupa region. Several areas in these regions have already experienced significant rainfall since Monday. Otavi, in the Otjozondjupa Region, is one such place that saw substantial rainfall, recording over 60 millimetres (mm) of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning.

Other locations, including Farm Belalaika in the Outjo District, Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region, Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region, Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, Rehoboth in the Hardap Region, and Windhoek in the Khomas Region, also experienced light to moderate rainfall during this period. The showers in these areas, among others, have been captured and shared online, where social media users have expressed their gratitude for the rainfall.

More, possibly heavier, showers are expected for the rest of this week in many interior parts of the country, including areas that have already received significant rainfall.

Regarding Wednesday, the Namibia Meteorological Services has predicted that the north-central, north-western, Otjozondjupa, and Khomas regions, in particular, are likely to experience moderate to widespread showers. The Namibia Meteorological Services has also warned that the anticipated thunderstorms in these regions could result in flash floods, advising the public to remain alert and cautious.
