A 43-year-old male suspect has been arrested in the Omusati Region accused of having raped a 10-year-old girl on an unknown date during December last year.
The alleged crime occurred in the Oshikushashipya village in the Etayi constituency of the Omusati region.
The police said that the suspect, who stays in the same house with the victim, raped her after forcefully pulling her in his bedroom.
The incident was only recently reported to the police by the victim’s father, an Angolan national currently staying in the Omugulugombashe village near Tsandi.
Explaining the reoccurring belated reporting of rape cases, regional police commander Ismael Basson said: “In most cases, particularly where minors are involved, these cases are only reported after the parents/guardians observe that something is not right [with the child],” said Basson.
