THE Petroleum Training and Education Fund (PETROFUND), in collaboration with Harmattan Energy Limited has announced fully funded scholarships for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses at the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) in Keetmanshoop for this academic year.
PETROFUND’s spokesperson, Shoki Kandjimi, revealed that the scholarships are available for boiler making, electrical, fitting and turning courses at NIMT in Keetmanshoop. He encouraged people from the southern regions to apply, particularly in light of the oil and gas discoveries in the southern parts of the country.
“Qualified Namibians who have passed Mathematics, Science, and English at Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level (NSSCO), either at the new Grade 11 or the old Grade 12, are eligible to apply for this fully funded scholarship. Applicants with the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) at Grade 12 are also eligible. Successful candidates must be ready to commence studies in March 2025 at the NIMT Keetmanshoop campus,” Kandjimi explained.
He added that the rapid growth of Namibia’s oil and gas industry has created a critical demand for skilled professionals in fields such as boiler making, electrical engineering, and fitting and turning. He emphasised that these skills are essential for participation in petroleum exploration licence holders’ ongoing exploration and appraisal campaigns.
“This initiative aligns with PETROFUND’s commitment to equipping Namibia’s youth with essential primary technical skills, serving as a foundation for further oil and gas upskilling. The goal is to enable young Namibians to secure employment in the country’s evolving petroleum industry,” Kandjimi said.
