THE Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism will host the 11th Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in Windhoek from 10 to 16 December 2024.

Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said that the event will bring together 750 delegates from over 150 countries, including scientists, policymakers, and global experts, to address critical issues related to biodiversity, ecosystem services, and their connections to human well-being.

“Namibia’s selection as the host country underscores its growing role as a leader in environmental conservation and sustainable development,” he said.

Muyunda added that hosting IPBES 11 is a historic opportunity for Namibia to showcase its leadership in sustainable practices and biodiversity conservation.

Additionally, he highlighted that the event will draw international attention, creating awareness of Namibia’s unique biodiversity and its commitment to protecting natural resources.

“The outcomes of this meeting are expected to influence global conservation policies, guide integrated approaches to tackling climate and biodiversity challenges, and spotlight the critical role of countries like Namibia in securing a sustainable future,” he added.

Muyunda encouraged Namibians to engage with this landmark event, which he believes will enhance the country’s global profile and inspire national pride and action toward a more sustainable future.
