PLAYING Russian roulette with the lives of those who travel by train, thieves in the capital have risked the lives of train travelers by vandalizing railway tracks near Luiperdvallei, approximately 3 km from the southern roadblock of the capital, near Heroes’ Acre, over the past weekend.
According to reports, the thieves stole several metal components from the rail line.
Abigail Raubenheimer, TransNamib spokesperson, confirmed that emergency teams have been informed about the incident.
“It is an ongoing battle to combat railway infrastructure theft. We have also engaged with NamPol and have started creating public awareness about the dire consequences of stealing railway infrastructure. We urge the public to report any suspected theft of railway parts to our call center at 0819582002,” Raubenheimer said.
