NamPol promotes over 2,000 officers

THE Namibian Police (NamPol) Senior Management has promoted a total of 2,990 officers, effective from 1st November 2024.

This was announced by NamPol’s Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, who revealed that 1,342 of the promoted officers are women, while 1,648 are men.

“It is a known fact that it takes a lot of commitment, loyalty, resilience, and dedication for a police officer to deliver on their national duties. I am therefore gratified to stand before you today, not only to address you as hardworking police officers, but the event is also one of those joyful occasions that marks the conferment of ranks to some of those hardworking men and women in the Namibian Police Force,” Shikongo said.

He emphasised that the members of the police force are promoted in recognition of their commitment and dedication to national duties. He encouraged the officers to remain committed to the force, and to focus on crime prevention initiatives or devise new operational strategies and tactics, to ensure that the Namibian Police Force, together with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, remains relevant in a modern policing world.

“The higher you go, the more responsibilities you get, but above all, you will be expected to oversee the work of others in serving and protecting our communities and the general public from criminals. It is therefore expected of all promoted officers to always perform your duties to the best of your ability and to account to the laws, authorities, and people of this land at all times. You should always maintain a high level of professionalism, to be assets, not liabilities, to the organisation,” Shikongo said.

The Inspector General assured that NamPol would continue to allocate resources for the training and ongoing development of its members, with a special emphasis on crime prevention and investigation procedures, force discipline, customer service, and leadership skills.
