THE Namibian police arrested eleven suspects this weekend in nine separate incidents involving drug possession or dealing, as well as possession of illicit goods.
Ten of the suspects, aged between 20 and 52, are Namibian citizens, while one is a Congolese national.
A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested in Otavi on Friday after allegedly being found in possession of 50 packs of “Yes” cigarettes, valued at N$10,000.
Also on Friday, the police in Rehoboth apprehended a 52-year-old female suspect who was allegedly found with loose pure cannabis and mandrax tablets worth N$1,020.
Another suspect, aged 35, was arrested in Rehoboth the same day when he was found in possession of loose skunk cannabis valued at N$8,250.
A 25-year-old male suspect was arrested at a police roadblock on the main road four kilometers north of Kalkrand. Upon being searched, he was found with cannabis, though its value could not be established on the spot.
That same day, another suspect, aged 52, was arrested on the B-1 road, ten kilometers from Kalkrand, when he was also found in possession of cannabis and crack cocaine together valued at N$40,000.
A second suspect, aged 23, was arrested at the same roadblock when he was found with cannabis valued at N$200.
Three suspects, aged 26, 30, and 32, were apprehended in Nauchas on Friday when they were found with cannabis whose value could not be immediately established.
Meanwhile, a Congolese national was apprehended in the Osire refugee camp for alleged cannabis possession. The 20-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday after a police search found cannabis of an unknown value on him.
In Okahandja, yet another suspect was arrested in the Saamstaan location on Saturday. The 31-year-old male suspect was allegedly found in possession of loose cannabis worth N$34,444, along with a cash amount of N$124, which was confiscated by the police.
All eleven suspects are expected to appear in court in their respective magisterial areas on Monday.
