Ondangwa housing development on track

THE National Housing Enterprise (NHE) has completed the construction of 33 out of 64 houses at Ondangwa Extension 25 in the Oshana Region.

This project also created 200 jobs for local residents during the construction process.

Construction began in May this year and is expected to be completed by December 2024.

The work is being carried out by Kambwa Construction.

Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, Mutonga Matali, said the Ondangwa project will be completed at a cost of N$27 million.

According to Matali, the remaining houses are 98% complete and are expected to be finalized before the end of December.

“This site is progressing quickly; we are truly on track with our project. Once the entire project is completed, we will move on to the next,” he said.

He added that NHE has streamlined many of its processes to align with policies and ensure quality is maintained despite the fast pace of construction.

Matali said that they always encourage local authorities to support them in housing delivery, as housing needs can only be addressed with the cooperation of all stakeholders.

“We need more affordable serviced land, as higher land costs make housing more expensive. Without access to affordable land, our work becomes challenging,” he added.

Furthermore, Matali said that after completing the current projects, they will move to Oshakati, where they plan to build 50 houses, Otavi with 50, and Eenhana with 100. In Eenhana, land will be developed in phases based on demand.

Additionally, he indicated that they have completed 24 houses in Ondangwa, 80 in Omuthiya, 70 in Okahao, 81 in Outapi, and 35 in Tsandi over the past two years.
