THE National Housing Enterprise (NHE) is fulfilling its mandate to address the housing backlog in the country. This commitment is evident with the construction of 506 houses during the financial year 2023/24.
Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, Mutonga Matali, shared this during a media engagement on Thursday evening in Ondangwa, Oshana Region.
According to Matali, NHE has reactivated its Excess Loan, which was previously on hold, and is encouraging clients to take advantage of their service offerings, including Building Loans.
He explained that the Excess Loan initially provided N$20,000 and has now been increased to N$50,000. This loan does not require bond registration, and funds are paid out to clients within a week of application.
Matali added that the Building Loan can be granted up to N$1 million, depending on the amount an applicant qualifies for.
“We are working around the clock to address the housing backlog in the country and to deliver housing to the Namibian people. We currently have two major projects underway in Ondangwa and Omuthiya,” he said.
Matali said that the Ondangwa project involves the construction of 64 houses for low- to middle-income earners at a cost of N$27 million, while in Omuthiya, 30 houses are being built for ultra-low-income earners at a cost of N$6.5 million.
“We have strengthened our policy infrastructure to guide every process within NHE, which streamlines workflow and accelerates housing delivery to address the housing backlog,” he said.
He further mentioned that NHE is now able to deliver houses on time, as they have secured funding for capital projects after catching up on their audited financial reports, which were seven years behind.
Matali said that, in the past, NHE struggled to secure funding, but they are now being approached by banking institutions, which simplifies the rollout of their housing projects.
He urged NHE clients to contact regional branches in Oshakati, Rundu, Keetmanshoop, Windhoek, and Walvis Bay to access various loan facilities offered by the institution.
