THE Executive Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, said that Namibia and China enjoy a strong bilateral relationship characterized by mutual respect, cooperation, and shared development goals.
Speaking on Tuesday at the official launch of the South-South Cooperation project between Namibia and the People’s Republic of China, Nghituwamata said the project, which falls under the guidance of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), aims to address Namibia’s agricultural challenges and promote sustainable development.
“This moment marks a significant milestone in the longstanding cooperation between Namibia and China. This project is a testament to our commitment to strengthening ties and working together to address common challenges,” said Nghituwamata.
She extended a special welcome to the eight Chinese cooperants and expressed hope that their expertise and dedication will contribute to the project’s success.
The Chinese consultants will provide technical assistance in agriculture and fisheries, covering areas such as soil management, seed production, plant health, poultry, animal husbandry, fisheries, and vocational training.
Nghituwamata said: “The project is directly aligned with our national development priorities. It supports the goals outlined in our fifth National Development Plan, focusing on agriculture, food security, and fisheries. By building capacity in these areas, we aim to enhance our agricultural sector’s resilience and productivity.”
She added that Namibia remains deeply grateful for China’s continued support. “Our strong bilateral relations have enabled us to collaborate effectively on projects like this. Through this South-South Cooperation, we are sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to achieve shared development objectives,” she said, adding that by focusing on plant health, seed production, poultry, education, soil fertility, and fisheries, the project will enhance Namibia’s agricultural sector’s resilience and productivity, provide essential training and support to farmers, and ensure food security and improved livelihoods.
She thanked China and the FAO for their invaluable support and collaboration, which align with Namibia’s NDPs and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Let us work together to make this project a success and build a more prosperous and sustainable future for Namibia,” she said.
