CONSTRUCTION workers made a curious discovery while digging a trench for electrical cables at Rehoboth in the Hardap Region. They found guns that the police described as “redundant firearms,” possibly dating back to the days of the German occupation.
The police were alerted by a private property developer after his workers uncovered 55 old, broken, rusted rifles without serial numbers.
“The rifles were discovered by construction workers while digging trenches on the open erf where they were to lay electrical cables. It is believed that the rifles might have been buried there during the German wars,” said the police.
The rifles were collected from the scene and booked in at the Rehoboth Police Station.
