THE Electoral Commission of Namibia has announced that it has rejected the presidential candidacy bids of Ally Angula, Jeremiah Kaambo, and Elsie Chen to be registered as independent candidates for the upcoming November elections.
“In terms of section 75(3) of the Electoral Act, I have rejected the nominations of Ms. Else N. Chen, Mr. Jeremia Kaambo, and Ms. Ally Angula as candidates. Candidates will be notified in writing of this rejection and the grounds upon which it has been made. In accordance with section 75(3)(b), I hereby announce the extension of the public sitting for the declaration of candidates duly nominated for election as President. The extension has been granted to afford registered political parties or persons who have submitted nominations the opportunity to rectify any rejected nominations or nominate another qualified person as a candidate for the election. This sitting is extended for a period not exceeding one day from the original close of the sitting. The commission will reconvene tomorrow, the 17th day of October 2024,” the commission wrote in a notice.
