A 20-YEAR-OLD man accused of raping two minor girls in the Oshikoto Region has been remanded in custody after making his first court appearance on Tuesday.
The accused appeared before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court and was denied bail.
Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said that the incidents occurred in 2022 but were only recently reported during a police outreach program at Okankolo.
The matter was reported to the police by the victims’ 62-year-old grandmother.
According to Kalompo-Nashikaku, the accused assaulted two female minors aged 10 and 14.
“It is alleged that in the absence of the victims’ parents, the suspect, who is the victims’ neighbour, used to enter their house during the day or night and go to their sleeping room, where he would rape them,” she said.
She added that the accused allegedly molested the two victims at the same time on several occasions.
Kalompo-Nashikaku further indicated that the accused warned the victims not to tell anyone about the sexual acts and promised to give them money in return.
She then cautioned parents to always leave their children with trusted people to ensure their safety.
