Police set record straight on alleged sheep theft incident

THE Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region has provided clarification on the incident involving a bakkie filled with small stock, that was allegedly intercepted following widespread rumours of the animals being stolen.

Otjozondjupa Community Policing Sub-division Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha stated that no theft case was reported in connection with the incident. Instead, it involved farmers relocating their small stock from Otjiwarongo to Otavi.

According to Mbeha, the people were reportedly transporting their animals when they mistakenly loaded four sheep that did not belong to them among their own, which was only noticed later as they were on their way to Otavi.

“This caused panic for the owner, who alerted the police, and the vehicle was intercepted in the process. The person loading the small stock did not realize that the four sheep were not part of the rest,” she said.

She added that the matter was resolved on-site, and the four sheep were returned to the owner, with no case opened.
