NAMWATER is appreciated by the Ohangwena Athletics Club for making their trip to Potchefstroom, South Africa, possible.
The club is expected to participate in the upcoming NWU Top 30 Athletics Championships in Potchefstroom.
The championship is slated for 10 to 12 October 2024 at the McArthur Stadium.
Ohangwena Sports Club spokesperson, Teofelus Moses, said NamWater has flexed its financial muscles by helping 22 athletes participate in the championship.
According to Moses, NamWater helped the team pay for their accommodation, which amounted to N$44,600, and this gesture came at the right time, as the team was preparing to travel and participate without accommodation.
“We were planning to camp at the police station in Potch,” he said.
He added that the athletes are working hard to ensure they qualify for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal, and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.
“We really want to thank NamWater for this noble gesture toward sports development in Namibia, particularly athletics,” he added.
He stressed that this is a developmental program initiated by the Ohangwena Athletics Club to give young athletes opportunities to discover their potential.
Further, Moses indicated that the team also received sponsorship from LMH Investment CC for t-shirts and Interpack Namibia, which provided water bottles for the team.
The travelling team consists of athletes from the Ohangwena, Oshana, Oshikoto, and Omaheke regions.
NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said they are proud to sponsor the Ohangwena Athletics Club as part of their ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.
“Our investment in sports is rooted in our belief that sports development plays a crucial role in the holistic growth of communities and the well-being of individuals, especially the youth,” he said.
He added that supporting initiatives like the Ohangwena Athletics Club aligns with their broader objectives to promote healthy lifestyles, instil discipline, and encourage teamwork.
Ndamanomhata indicated that by investing in sports, they are not only empowering young athletes to reach their full potential but also fostering a sense of unity and community pride.
He said that this effort contributes to the government’s goal of nurturing talent and creating opportunities for youth to excel on both national and international stages.
“NamWater’s commitment extends beyond providing water services; we aim to positively impact the communities we serve. Our support derives from our long-term commitment, where we have actively pledged to uplift the local sports landscape, reflecting our dedication to contributing to Namibia’s socio-economic development,” he added.
He said that they believe that through sports, they can drive social cohesion and create avenues for youth development, which are essential components of national progress.
Ndamanomhata stressed that NamWater remains committed to advancing sports and community development. They will continue to support initiatives that create lasting benefits for the nation.
