Ombili Clinic officially opens in Otjiwarongo District

THE Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has officially inaugurated the Ombili Clinic in the Otjiwarongo District, Otjozondjupa Region.

Shangula revealed that the clinic was built at a cost of N$6 million, with support from B2Gold Namibia.

“Otjozondjupa Region, home to approximately 220,811 individuals, is a region of diverse communities. Otjiwarongo Health District, with a population of 72,868 people, represents 33% of the total population of the region. Despite having 26 health facilities, comprising four district hospitals, two health centres, and 20 clinics, there remained a gap in service delivery for the communities of Ombili, DRC, Telecom, and Xara-aibes. These communities have been solely reliant on the Ombili Health Post, which served over 19,609 people but was limited in the scope of services it could provide,” the minister explained.

He emphasised that the Ombili Clinic will therefore contribute to making healthcare services more accessible while also alleviating the burden placed on other health facilities.

“The new Ombili Clinic emerges as a critical component in addressing the health disparities faced by rural and underserved populations within the Otjozondjupa Region,” he added.

Shangula revealed that the clinic will provide comprehensive services, including the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, antenatal and postnatal care, screenings and treatment for minor ailments, HIV and TB services, management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, dental and pharmaceutical services, health promotion, family planning, and adolescent-friendly health services.

“The inauguration of the Ombili Clinic is a transformative milestone that reaffirms our dedication to health equity and quality service delivery. It is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite for a common purpose,” the minister added.
