NAMIB Mills has temporarily withdrawn Top Score Instant Porridge from the markets in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Lesotho following the deaths of three children in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Namib Mills Senior Brand Manager, Marné Bouwer, said this was done while investigations are ongoing.
According to Bouwer, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and senior management team travelled to Mdantsane to personally engage with the affected community and oversee the progress of an independent investigation.
“The production batch in question has been identified and isolated. Samples have been sent to an independent, accredited third-party laboratory for comprehensive testing,” she said.
She added that although results typically take up to two weeks, they have requested an expedited process to ensure they can share findings with the public as soon as possible.
Furthermore, Bouwer indicated that although this is an isolated incident connected to one household only, they remain fully committed to cooperating with all relevant authorities to establish the facts and provide full transparency.
She stressed that Namib Mills upholds the highest food safety standards across all their products. The independent testing of their Top Score Instant Porridge is part of their ongoing commitment to ensuring the quality and safety of everything they produce.
She noted that this process is intended to reassure the public and their retail partners that all their products continue to meet the strictest regulatory standards.
