NamWater announces planned water supply interruption for Ondangwa and surrounding areas

NAMWATER has announced that a planned water supply interruption is expected to occur in the Ondangwa area.

The interruption will affect Ondangwa, Oshali, Omutsegonime, Omuthiya, Oniipa, and surrounding areas.

NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said that the interruption is necessary due to essential construction works at the Ondangwa Pump Station and Reservoir, as well as the new pipeline between Ondangwa and Oshali Pump Stations. According to Ndamanomhata, this interruption will allow the contractor to complete the connection of the new pipeline and integrate the new infrastructure with the existing systems.

“This work is crucial for the ongoing upgrade of the Ondangwa-Oluno/Indangungu Pump Station and will result in improved water supply capacity and reliability once completed,” he said.

He added that the first shutdown is expected to occur on 3rd October 2024 from 08:00 to 18:00, and again on 10th October 2024 from 08:00 to 18:00. Each shutdown is expected to last between 7 and 9 hours. He noted that every effort is being made to reduce the interruption time and complete the work as quickly as possible. Full water supply should be restored shortly after the work is completed.

Moreover, Ndamanomhata mentioned that essential service institutions such as hospitals, schools, police stations, and clinics facing critical water supply issues should contact Abraham Asser Ashipala, Manager for Operations – Cuvelai, at 081 129 9483, or the Schemes Superintendent, Mr Nicodemus Ndemwiimba, at 081 145 5267 (Oshikoto Region). He stressed that water arrangements via tankers can be coordinated to ensure uninterrupted service during the water supply interruptions.
