Ondangwa business owners urged to follow laws and procedures

OSHANA Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, said that while they encourage people to do business in any given town, law and order must be followed.

Sakaria made these remarks during a community meeting with local business people in Ondangwa on Thursday, emphasizing that laws are in place to guide people.

According to Sakaria, they specifically called on business owners in Ondangwa, including shebeen owners, club owners, and gambling house owners, because they have realized that most of the trouble starts at drinking establishments, and they wanted to find ways to curb such activities.

He indicated that, as law enforcement, they encourage people to operate without interference but also need them to consider those living within their areas of operation.

“We explained to them how to obtain their operating licenses, and we made it clear that we want people to trade. We want people to live; we are not here to limit people’s livelihoods,” he said.

He added that they understand the impact small businesses have on the region’s economy, but there should be law and order when trading.

He stressed that fighting crime is not easy and requires collective efforts from all stakeholders, including law enforcement.

He also stated that, as law enforcers, they want to see business people trading but also ensuring that they follow the laws and procedures required.

Sakaria clarified that they do not oppose people operating their establishments according to their licenses, but only want to see things done in an orderly manner.
