A CASE of armed robbery is being investigated by police in the Otjozondjupa Region after seven unknown suspects robbed the Okahandja Powersafe Supermarket of cash and goods worth N$150,000 on Thursday.
NamPol Head of Media, Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga, said the incident occurred around 18:56.
According to Kuwinga, it is alleged that the seven suspects entered the shop pretending to be customers who wanted to buy something, as the shop operates until 19:00.
“As the shop’s operating hours were about to end, the cashier went to close the shop with only a few customers still inside. During that time, one of the suspects at the counter pulled out a pistol and ordered the customers to lie down,” he said.
He added that the suspect then took N$100,000 in cash, two iPhones, one laptop, and two bags, all valued at N$150,000.
Kuwinga indicated that all seven suspects were allegedly armed, and they fled the scene—some on foot, while others got away in a Polo parked outside.
“No one was hurt during the incident,” he added.
No arrests have been made, and the police investigation is ongoing.
