THE Namibian Police Force is committed to delivering quality services to the public at all costs.
This was according to Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, who spoke during the Oshana Police Women Network workshop held in Ongwediva on Wednesday.
The workshop is being held under the theme: ‘Women in Law Enforcement: Leading with Strength and Compassion.’
According to Sakaria, their role as law enforcement officers is to protect, serve, and uphold the law, and that responsibility comes with high expectations from the communities they serve.
“Anything less than professionalism and respect will not be tolerated. Our role as law enforcement officers is to protect, serve, and uphold the law, and that responsibility comes with high expectations from the communities we serve,” he said.
He added that every action they take reflects not only on them as individuals but on the entire institution of law enforcement.
Sakaria indicated that the workshop was born out of numerous complaints he receives from the public concerning the service they encounter when interacting with police officers, particularly female officers.
He said while they commend the many officers who are dedicated, professional, and compassionate in their service, they cannot overlook the few incidents where the quality of service does not meet the high standards they have set as a region.
Sakaria also stressed that as part of building partnerships between the police and the community, they engage with each individual to ensure they can fight crime collectively.
He said that going to churches is part of the strategy to ensure partnerships, as they are committed to delivering quality services to the public.
Deputy Commissioner Nangula Iifo, Head of the Women Network, said that the crime rate is ever-increasing, and they must adjust their mindset to have a better chance of fighting crime.
Iifo said that the nation is genuinely concerned about their welfare, and therefore the police are obliged to ensure that society is crime-free.
