FORMER learners of St. Joseph’s RC High School at Dobra should get ready to party, as a school-wide reunion is set to take place next month.
The event will be held at the school’s sports ground from 09:00 until late on 5 October 2024. This event promises to be a memorable day filled with camaraderie, fun, and opportunities to support their beloved alma mater.
St. Joseph’s RC High is one of Namibia’s oldest schools, established in the early 1900s, with the aim of catering to marginalized Namibian children after the War of National Resistance waged by the Herero and Nama against occupying German forces from 1904 to 1908.
School reunion committee member Rosalia Amupolo said that the primary objective of the reunion is to bring together alumni from all years for a day of celebration and nostalgia while also raising funds for the renovation of their cherished school hall.
According to Amupolo, the reunion, which is a first of its kind, is expected to host about 3,000 alumni from all generations and will feature a variety of activities, including sports events, market stalls, entertainment, and a relaxation lounge, to name a few.
“We are reaching out to alumni to request their generous support for this significant event. Their contribution will play a vital role in ensuring its success and in contributing to the ongoing improvement of our school facilities,” she said.
In order to make this event truly memorable, the committee is now seeking donations or sponsorships for various items, including but not limited to monetary pledges, as all financial support will cover expenses associated with organizing the event and renovating the school hall.
They are also seeking tents and gazebos, tables, bar counters, seating, a stage, sound equipment (speakers and microphones), sports kits for soccer, netball, and volleyball teams, and ablution facilities to be used at the sports field.
