PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba reaffirmed Namibia’s dedication to sustainable, green industrialisation, emphasising that the government views it as a catalyst for new economic opportunities.
“Green industrialisation, as a pillar of sustainable industrialisation, will be an important sub-compass in how we, as Namibia, facilitate new economic opportunities in sectors such as oil and gas, renewable hydrogen, and critical raw minerals. Sustainable green development has the potential to accelerate the process leading up to modernisation; hence, Namibia is pursuing green hydrogen,” the president explained.
He made these remarks at the high-level meeting on Industrialisation and Agricultural Modernisation, taking place in Beijing, China, as part of the Ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He emphasised that green development is vital for modernisation, ensuring the nation’s transformation does not result in stranded assets. He also noted that it would likely support urbanisation, improve resource efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and protect Namibia’s natural resources. President Mbumba further highlighted that green development could boost agricultural production, increase value addition, and ensure environmental efficiency.
“For accelerated industrialisation, we need enhanced agricultural production and value addition, and efficient environmental responsiveness through green development. China’s industrialisation has been rapid, and given our excellent relations with China, the African continent can draw valuable lessons from China’s development trajectory,” the president added.
