MOST parts of Namibia can expect normal to above-normal rainfall between October 2024 and March 2025.

This forecast was highlighted in the Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) 29th Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-29). The SARCOF-29 outlook was released after representatives from the SADC region met in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 26 to 28 August 2024 to discuss the implications of the upcoming rainfall season and strategies to mitigate its impact, while also collaboratively developing an early warning system for the region.

The SARCOF-29 was formulated by climate experts from the SADC National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and the SADC Climate Services Centre (CSC). It presents the seasonal rainfall forecast for the period spanning from October 2024 to March 2025.

According to the outlook, most parts of Namibia can expect normal to above-normal rainfall between October and December 2024, while the southern regions are likely to experience normal to below-normal rainfall during the same period.

The outlook also predicts that most parts of Namibia can expect normal to above-normal rainfall in January, February, and March 2025. However, it forecasts that the western parts of Namibia might experience normal to below-normal rainfall in January 2025, while the southwestern parts of the country might experience normal to below-normal rainfall in February 2025.
