Ohangwena athletes seek assistance

THE Ohangwena Athletics Club is seeking assistance to make the dreams of 19 athletes a reality, with the hope of raising the Namibian flag high during the NWU Top 30 Athletics Championship.

The championship is scheduled for 10-12 October 2024 in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

According to team coach Teofelus Moses, 19 young athletes aged 13-19 will participate in the NWU Top 30 Athletics Championship. Many of these athletes are aiming to qualify for the Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal, in 2026.

“Our main aim is to give these athletes international exposure and experience. Most of these young athletes have proven their abilities in various competitions in Namibia,” he said.

He added that the team is proud to have had two athletes represent Namibia at the World Cross-Country Championship in Kenya. Additionally, they have one of the best young athletes who qualified for the international games in Bahrain, set for later in October 2024.

Moses humbly requested support from private companies, parastatals, NGOs, or individuals to help the team raise funds for their accommodation in South Africa.

He said that they need to raise about N$50,000 for their stay in Potchefstroom.

The team is expected to leave the Ohangwena Region on 7 October 2024 and return on 14 October 2024.
