A CASE of murder is being investigated by the police in the Oshana Region after a 24-year-old man was allegedly stabbed with a piece of a broken bottle by a 25-year-old man at Omaalala location.
The deceased has been identified as Shipanga Abed Mandume.
Oshana Commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, said the incident occurred on Sunday evening near Ongwediva.
According to Sakaria, the suspect and the deceased were allegedly seen drinking Castelo wine together before the incident.
“It is alleged that the deceased was the last to drink the Castelo wine when it was finished, and the suspect tried to grab the empty bottle from the deceased, who briefly withheld it and slapped the suspect twice with an open hand on the face,” he said.
He added that the suspect allegedly had a piece of a broken bottle (the neck of a wine bottle) in his hand at that time and stabbed the deceased with it in the neck, causing severe bleeding. The deceased died on the spot.
Sakaria indicated that the suspect was pursued by members of the public after the incident and was assaulted in the process. He sustained several injuries and was transported to Oshakati State Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
“His condition is stable, and he is still in the casualty section of the hospital. The suspect has been arrested and detained. He is under guard at the hospital,” he said.
He said that the murder weapon has not yet been clearly identified, but investigations are underway.
