THE Namibia Drydock and Ship Repair (Namdock) has confirmed that the dock which sank at Walvis Bay on Monday morning has been successfully stabilised.
This follows the sinking of one of Namdock’s floating docks on Monday morning due to strong undercurrents. Namdock explained that the dock experienced a southward shift, causing the ramp to fall into the water and damage one of the tanks underneath the dock.
“We are pleased to report that, thanks to the exceptional teamwork of our emergency response team, the dock operations team, and various professional support crews, the dock was successfully stabilised yesterday evening following the hull breach that resulted in the flooding of one of the exterior wall ballast tanks,” Namdock explained.

Following the incident, the company assured that the situation was being closely monitored, and that emergency response teams were on site, addressing the incident and ensuring the safety of the vessel on the dock.
They emphasised that they remain focused on mitigating any potential environmental impact and have been collaborating closely with local authorities and relevant experts to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation and implement mitigation measures.
“We can confirm that there were no injuries associated with the incident. Based on the current assessment from our environmental team, we confirm that no environmental concerns have arisen from the dock’s partial flooding. Additionally, customer assets on the dock are secure, and operational activities resumed this morning,” Namdock added.
